Biography
Ümer İpçi was a Crimean Tatar writer, poet, translator, actor, and theatre director. Born in Bahçesaray in 1897, he attended one of the new-method schools associated with İsmail Gaspıralı's educational reforms. He also published under the pen name Alkeday.
İpçi helped develop modern Crimean Tatar theatre through writing, translation, directing, and performance. His work belonged to a period when writers were building a repertoire for a growing national stage while contributing to literary journals such as İleri. His career connected the educational reforms of the earlier Jadid movement with the cultural institutions of the 1920s.
According to the thesis used by the archive, his later life included a prison sentence and confinement in a psychiatric hospital. He died in Tomsk in 1955, far from his birthplace.

The thesis describes İpçi as a writer, poet, translator, stage director, and actor born in Bahçesaray, who also wrote as Alkeday and received his first schooling at İsmail Gaspıralı's usul-i cedid school. It records that after a prison sentence he was sent to a psychiatric hospital, and that he died in Tomsk, Siberia, in 1955.
